The only fluoride-containing bioactive glass toothpaste to be approved by the FDA for sale in the United States.

Trycare is delighted to announce that BioMin F toothpaste, sold as Dr Collins BioMin Restore Plus in the USA, has received FDA 510K approval for relief of sensitivity. This is a significant achievement because BioMin F is the only fluoride-containing bioactive glass toothpaste to be approved by the FDA for sale in the United States.

BioMin® F uniquely controls the release of calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions for many hours after brushing to develop acid-resistant fluorapatite on the tooth surface and inside exposed dentine tubules.

There are many causes of dentine hypersensitivity which means that previously no single toothpaste worked for everyone. One of the advantages of BioMin® F is that it provides a constant supply of low levels of fluoride, calcium and phosphate at the biofilm/saliva/dental interface, which allows fluorapatite to be deposited gradually. After brushing with BioMin® F, the active ingredient adheres to the tooth surface where its controlled release mechanism continuously deposits mineral on the tooth surface for up to 12 hours. This means BioMin® F is more effective at relieving sensitivity than conventional dentifrices, which are rinsed away in around an hour.

Studies around the world also confirm that the fluorapatite developed from BioMin® F penetrates deeply inside exposed dentine tubules, plugging them and preventing the fluid flow which causes dentine hypersensitivity.

BioMin® F has a fresh mint taste and leaves the mouth feeling clean and healthy. For those who prefer a fluoride-free alternative, there is BioMin® C, which is based on a calcium/phosphate bioglass. There is also fluoride-containing BioMin® F For Kids, which is available in Strawberry and Melon flavour.

Great results

Great results after only a couple of months. It seems like my teeth are getting whiter. It still will take some time I believe until they are how I’d hoped for but I’m happy so far and definitely will buy it again.

My new favourite toothpaste

Just love Biomin C so glad I tried it as it has improved my sensitivity to cold and has clearly whitened and strengthened my teeth…I won’t go back to using other pastes.

BioMin F – loving the fresh taste

I really like the fact that I don’t have to rinse afterwards and have a lingering feeling of freshness! My teeth have never felt cleaner and the sensitivity has improved.

BioMin F is my new favourite toothpaste

Tried this toothpaste on a dental hygienists suggestion. I was sceptical on the effectiveness to begin with but now onto my third tube and my teeth and gums feel and look much better. You really only need a small amount and the taste is very pleasant. Highly recommend this armour for your teeth.

BioMin F Kids – Strawberry

This is a great toothpaste for my daughter. She has a dairy allergy and this is fantastic to use, as we were recommended tooth moose but this is much better! Thanks ☺️

Fluoride in BioMin F Toothpaste

February 2, 2021 by palosebo

Fluoride Toothpaste

The Fluoride content found in BioMin® F toothpaste does not exceed 600ppm, which is far less than conventional toothpastes. BioMin® F was featured in Oral Health Magazine regarding this new technology.

By using Smart Technology, BioMin Toothpastes are able spread the release fluoride over a period of 10 to 12 hours.

History of BioMin Toothpastes

January 31, 2021 by palosebo

BioMin Technologies Ltd was established to commercialise research conducted over the past decade at Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College, London, to develop bioactive glass materials to reduce tooth sensitivity, help replace lost mineral from tooth surfaces and protect against tooth decay. The company has recieved ISO 13485:2016 Quality Management certification from NSAI.

BioMin F & BioMin C Armour for teeth: High Performance Sensitivity, Remineralising & Protective toothpaste + whitening

History

BioMin™ F was introduced in September 2016 and delivers low level fluoride for up to 12 hours together with Calcium and Phosphate to relieve dentine hypersensitivity.

BioMin™ C is available for those who do not wish to use a fluoride containing toothpaste but still require an efficient product for relief of dentine Hypersensitivity.

BioMin™  F for Kids was introduced in May 2020 and is the first remineralising toothpaste designed for children 3-6 years of age

For more information, Please see excerpt below from Queen Mary University of London Website

In July 2014 QMUL set up the company BioMin Technologies Ltd and developed the remineralising sensitivity toothpaste BioMinF®, which was launched in April 2016, based on special patented glasses that dissolve in saliva releasing calcium, phosphate and fluoride. Toothpastes are the first line of protection in tooth decay that costs the NHS in excess of £1 billion pa. BioMinF is the first practical example of slow release of fluoride from toothpastes. The glass particles in BiomInF® release fluoride over 10-12 hours and protects the tooth from decay. BioMinF® toothpastes are on sale in the UK, Germany, Australia, US, Canada, China and India. 90% of users surveyed had improved tooth sensitivity after using the product and several professionals are recommending it. Clinical trials have also showed better clinical effectiveness vs other sensitivity toothpastes.

The science: developing bioactive glasses for use in toothpaste

The research team, led by Professor Hill at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, has a world-leading understanding of bioactive glasses. Bioactive glasses dissolve in body fluids including saliva releasing calcium and phosphate ions which protect against tooth decay. The group have also investigated the ability of the glasses to occlude dentinal tubules and to reduce fluid flow through them. Fluid flow through these tubules is the cause of tooth pain associated with hot or cold stimulation. The exposure of these tubules may also lead to bacteria entering the tubules and facilitating tooth decay. In addition the group have investigated the abrasivity of bioactive glasses towards tooth enamel in terms of particle shape and size in order to be able to design a low abrasivity toothpaste.

Tooth Sensitivity & Remineralisation

January 31, 2021 by palosebo

Up to 40% of the population suffers from tooth sensitivity.

There are a number of different groups of the population who suffer from tooth sensitivity, these include;

  • Over enthusiastic brushers
  • Those with periodontal problems
  • Bulimics
  • Persons with Xerostoma
  • Individuals regularly consuming acidic food and drink
  • Older people with gingival recession
  • Smokers.

All of these can present with similar symptoms and really require professional diagnosis since the optimal treatment for each group can differ. In total it is believed that up to 40% of the adult population experience some level of sensitivity. A typical cause of tooth sensitivity is due to exposed and open dentine tubules in the teeth, find out more about how tooth sensitivity is caused here.

Remineralisation is a naturally occurring process where the saliva containing Calcium and Phosphate is in a dynamic equilibrium with the tooth surface. If the pH level in the mouth drops below 5.5, tooth mineral will be dissolved from the tooth surface.

As the pH returns to above 5.5 the situation is reversed and Calcium and Phosphate from saliva combine to form Hydroxyapatite on the tooth surface. If the tooth surface is predominantly Fluorapatite this process occurs at a slightly more acidic level at pH4.5.

Consequently Fluorapatite development (the process found in BioMin® F toothpaste) has the benefit of reducing the rate at which teeth suffer from acid attack.
